I am assuming you don't eat red meat, there are many vegetarian sources. Good sources of iron include beans, nuts, dried fruit (such as dried apricots), whole grains (such as brown rice), fortified breakfast cereals, soybean flour and most dark green leafy vegetables (such as watercress and curly kale). Remember to take plenty of citrus fruit as Vitamin C aids iron absorption.

I have the same problem and am absoulutley disgusted by red meat!!! I take an iron tablet once a day, it's called SLOW Fe, it's basically a slow release ferrous sulfate tablet, you can pick them up at any local drug store. I also eat alot of green leafy vegetables and beans. It seems to help. If you need anymore suggestions, email me. :)

i was very anaemic over a month ago so severe i had to have blood test every Friday, problem is I'm not very good at taking pills so had to do a high iron diet.
Any green veg and salad is best, tuna
liver if you can stomach it
a nice glass of Guinness may not have a lot of iron in but good excuse to call in the pub on way home.
Do a search on Internet for high iron foods this will help you
good look.

Peas, beans - baked, butter, red kidney. Lentils, chickpeas.
High fibre cereals e.g. weetabix. branflakes.
Muesli, Special K
Spring greens, nuts e.g. almonds, cashews.
Raisins, sultanas, dried apricots.
Also:
Bombay mix
Chocolate
Liquorice allsorts.
Naan, poppadoms
Wholemeal bread
(I have omitted the animal sources).
You should eat or drink something with a good source of vitamin C with these foods in order to aid proper absorption of iron.

Your doctor should also tell you what to do to remedy the situation. Go back. My doctor said I had an infectious chuckle and recommended that I stopped watching comedy shows..
