their own terrorists? It frustrates me that the perception of most Muslims in the Middle East being uncivilized and violent people, isn't effectively challenged by those of them that aren't these things. I keep waiting for a Middle East leader to speak up to the masses and call for peaceful Muslims to bond together and stop their religion from being perverted by madmen. Is that ever going to happen? And if no, why not? Does that mean those who are peaceful are just willing to let those who are violent represent them to the world?
Sadly, I think the answer is no, they will never do anything about it, but I'd like to hear opinions on this.

Yes, but most of those terrorists originate from the Middle East area.

Out of all the responses, yours affected me the most. I guess I don't want to believe that, truth be told. I don't want to believe that every Muslim ever born believes in violent and murderous behavior to attain their means and wipe the rest of us out.
But, perhaps you are right. To me, it is akin to blaming every German who was alive in Hitler's era. But then again, they didn't see because they didn't want to see. And then even when they suspected, they pushed it aside and said Heil Hitler.
This bothers me, have to think more on this. Thanks for causing me to fire up the little grey cells tonight in any case.

They have a complex society with tribal loyalties, national loyalties as well as loyalty to their sect of Islam. The balance was kept until we invaded and now there is a big fat hairy mess. The balance will be restored if we leave. Maybe not in our image or in a manner we would like but it will level out and things will settle down as much as they do in that part of the world. They have been settling their differences by themselves for over 3000 years and I believe they can do it now without our help or anyone else's help.

Did you ever consider maybe the reason they aren't challenging these things is because they are all uncivilized and violent people? Perhaps this religion is barbaric even more so than the others. Perhaps even the majority of rank and file members believe that all infidels should be destroyed. Is any of this a possibility or are we so PC we can't even leave room for the possibility that all those stereotypes actually hold some truth.

I agree with Igi. A large part of the problem is Israel. Right or wrong Muslims resent it.
If you've studied anything about the middle east, young intellectuals have been gravitating to extremism over the last 25 years. Many have left the jobs as university professors.
So the stereotype of the poor extreme Muslim is not accurate. Because of this I think there is general conflict among less extreme Muslims as to how do they proceed.
The other breach of protocol is that extremist Muslims don't want infidels on holyland and they consider America, infidels.
Bottom line, we are trying to impose on value system on their culture. Who's to say how you would react if that happened to you. I'm not saying its alright, but I have read alot of middle eastern history and while they are certainly poor elements they are a proud and ancient people and generally very educated.

I highly doubt it. Nothing was done by the people of Iraq to overthrow Saddam. The culture is different where as we have freedoms and liberty to openly discuss our dissatisfaction of our countries leaders. There country is much older and it's so ingrained in the people/culture not to question authority. Just as we can't imagine why people don't speak up, they don't understand why we don't follow what we are told without question. If there is a change we will never see it. Perhaps a few generations later it will happen.

They need a movement from within and as of now I do not foresee that happening. It would certainly be beneficial to change a new course but you also have to realize that with over something like 70 political parties all pulling for different things the likelihood of that is almost impossible.
They just need a huge civil movement toward a more unified government which should benefit all citizens. Maybe split the middle east up into statehoods? Just an idea.

I agree, hence my baiting in the hopes that they will stand up and shout from the rooftops enough is enough, but in all honesty, I don't think it will ever happen, not this far down the road, if they were going to speak out they would have done it by now, so let's face the facts, they hate us and want us the he11 out of the middle east so WTF? Let's leave them to it, and any hints of threats coming our way, we should obliterate the country responsible either directly or indirectly, we have to show these fanatics who's boss. Like it or lump it we are in a dog eat dog situation, so it's time we started getting down and dirty with these folk's and stomp all over them.

At leat in Iraq that is starting to happen. As they are tired of the violence.
It has to do with the same mind set as there in prewar Germany. Scar tactics and killing of the innocent if they speak up will control the masses who believe differently... just look at all the Saddam was able to do amongst people who didn't believe like he did.

I believe they would as soon as our Capitalist leave their area and stop exploiting them for their own natural resources. The facts remain that it was our Capitalist and Britain's Imperialist that have used and abused these people for decades now. They don't like Capitalism, and they have a right to their own type of economy and Governments. Our own CIA put the Sha of Iran into power the same as Bush putting the present Iraq President and Afghanistan President into power. It is the American Capitalist that can't seem to get the message.

The leaders are not peacefull them selfs. What can you expect from the people? You will never see them resolve thier problems. I know many middle east people that never want to return to that culture, way of life. And I know some that just need to return to were they came from.
They are nations of people that think women should stay home and obey thier husbands no matter what. Includeing taking the beatings thier husbands give them.
You know it is legal over there.

They have condemned the 911 attacks. The mainstream media has reported it but in passing. They feel the same about us re-electing an administration which has killed many innocent people, although they have no idea how the majority of Americans despise what we've done to the world in the past 7 years.
