The first answer was rather simplistic, I thought. Those answers don't always tell you the struggles in getting published. If you've written a book, go to the same source--books on publishing, literary agents, query letters and book proposals for information. It may mean a trip to the library or the bookstore. Having worked in libraries I can tell you there's sometimes a dearth of books on this subject or else they're outdated. In Borders or Barnes and Nobles you can spend as much time as you want comparing the books that will help you the most before you buy one to take home for further perusal. Just don't read, take notes, and then bolt--remember that book was written by an author who wants the royalties! Writer's Digest monthly magazine and special supplements have information. Get the 2008 edition of Writer's Market (now available and the Deluxe Edition comes wiht a CD for online reading). If it's a specific genre, they have market books dealing with just that specific subject. I've never used it, but I know Writer's Digest has an online service or "classes" on just about any subject--they may have one on publishing. Their website is www.WritersOnlineWorkshops.com. You can examine their contents for free so it may be worth a try. You'll stand a better chance of being published by having an agent. There are many books on this subject that will help you. Then start reading the books on proposals and query letters. Just remember--the book proposal or query letter is your first introduction to the agent/editor/publisher so you need to present yourself like you would on a first date--or even worse, to her father when he opens the door to grill you on your intentions!

That question is asked about 100 times a day. Instead of me repeating all the information - go to Resolved Questions and search keywords publisher and publishing. You will find hundreds of answers you can print out and study. Good luck. Pax - C
