Life is never fair, it is just life. Sometimes we go through times when nothing seems to be right. We take one step forward and 3 steps back. It would have been helpful to list in your question what your aspirations were. Perhaps others who answer your question can give you feedback on how they reached similar dreams and ambitions. Without knowing this , it is difficult to give you direct feedback but you are on the right track by reaching out to others.
If I cannot figure out something on my own, I swallow my pride and ask my friends for help. The help received can vary from the form of direct assistance to just a listening ear. The main point though is I really don't have to solve everything on my own power. Ask your friends for help in any of the ways they can offer it. Perhaps looking at the situation from a different angle is all that is required to solve a problem.
I also find that any task that seems insurmountable because I try to do too much at a single attempt to work on it. I always do better when I can focus on one aspect of the problem and solve it rather than try to solve everything at once. It helps to reinforce the accomplishments I did make rather and a multifaceted front with a lot of irons in the fire and no significant results. ... Just remember to do things step by step and you will always get closer to your goal in a meaningful way. If nothing else, the knowledge I obtain along the way is invaluable.
You may also need to separate your abilities from your emotions and ask the hard questions like do I possess the skills needed to accomplish my goals? If not what do I need to do to gain those skills and how to proceed? It helps to have a plan and write down the things you are focusing on and specific concrete things you can do to make the things on that list get checked off as completed. Otherwise a lot of effort is wasted chasing your own tail. Something seen and written down is easier to conceptualize than just a set of random ambitions. Make sure your list evaluates your steps as to their value in the over-all process to keep you from straying from your true course.
Good luck and don't give up your dreams..just modify your course a little to accomplish what you can. Life is more about the right attitude than "things" you have. The poorest people on this earth if they can celebrate the value of life and their relationships with others are rich beyond their dreams.

unfortunately, doing good deeds doesnt translate into getting good rewards.some would say the deed is the reward.or the pleasure the recipient of said good deed gets is the reward.yadayadayada.....you want the greenbacks.hugs and high 5's dont pay the bills.
life is crazy that some people are born into money and other struggle all their lives never having financial stability.some people are great singers and cant get a contract while bob dylan and tom waits are legends.a person can play lotto everyday and never come close to winning while a casual player will plop down $2 and win the mega lotto.life just doesnt make sense !!!
there really isnt an answer for your situation, just condolences and advice which im sure youre well sick of both by now.all i can say and all you can do is keep on keepin on.i honestly believe everything happens, good or bad,for a reason.
closing statement;please dont stop being a good person because the rewards dont match the deed.

Sometimes I think the universe is not being fair. But when we roll the dice there is no assurance it will be average. I flipped a coin for some months and graphed it. It went right down. I lost $40K in stock trading and I was angry at God.
I think you need to be in charge of people, that's what I think. If you love fairness and justice then you should get into some position of authority because we need to make this world. It doesn't just happen.

Life is just a random thing, the way I look at it at lest, I don't think it judges good and bad it just does what it wants, like a mindless beast.
I think I know what it's like to try try and fail, why must you go on, because you want it, and each try brings you closer to it, being positive is hard I know, but trust someone one who has and sort of is there, drowning yourself in guilt, and depression will ruin your life like you never imagined, I agree that the road ahead is tough and the rules are unfair, but it's kind of the only road there is, so why not take a chance and walk it?

If you are not making it with the best effort and your best ideas,
your ideas are holding you down.
One of the most difficult intellectual systems ever devised, is called (literally translated from Chinese,"one moment-three thousand.") Is called ihinen sanzen in Japanese, and was devised by a man called Tientai.
The reason I am writing about it is that Tientai proved that your ideas shape your environment. It used to take brilliant Chinese scholars upwards of 20 years to understand Tientai's system. The reward is that once you fully believe that your ideas shape your environment, you can find ideas that will take your environment where you want it to go.
Since you may not be a brilliant Chinese scholar, even though your prose is compelling, you need support in reaching that level of independence from external control.
If your current concepts are worth more to you than the success you crave, just get thee to a bookstore self-help section.
If you can taste how much you want to be rid of the limiting ideas that have been holding you back, check out the sgi-http://www.usa.org site. When I came back from a 10 year stay in Austria , I had no opportunities, couldn't get or hold a job and was facing severe circumstances of several kinds.
I checked out sgi and within one year had all the best jobs in my field in my territory.
It all depends on you and how open your mind is to learning how to release itself from old delusions.

Life is not about fairness or unfairness. It is about choices and consequences. If you don't like the experience of your life, it is time to make different choices. We do live in a universe of law and order but it may take a bit of wisdom to see it and make it work to our advantage.
If we continue to have the same experience it means we have not made changes. Looking for sympathy will only keep you stuck. If you are sincerely looking for answers to your question you will receive them. Then it will take courage to begin to live them. Don't lose heart!

the dream is just the dream. life is the path to get there, not the dream it self.
most of the times, as unfair life and as difficult the path is, the more you enjoy and appreciate the dream coming true.
and even if the path is not passing by the dream, still life was worth living for that.

Sometimes bad things happen for a while then go away for years at a time. Maybe you are choosing things without weighing the options correctly. However not all bad things happen to many because of choice.
I often think that is what Jesus meant when he said that Satan is the King of this world.

there replaced into by no potential a promise that existence could be honest. fairness is a relative element besides. What you may think of of as unfair, yet another there with you may think of merely the different and picture it replaced into merely. Roll with the punches and mark the flaws that ensue to you as a getting to understand technique, the two stable and undesirable. all of us pass by way of them. many human beings make their own success which incorporate undesirable... God loves you no remember what.

"...that do good?" - for whom? I'm unsure of your idea of doing good. I find that many people think they are obligated to put others before themselves - sacrificing their own life & well being for some pop-cult ethics of altruism. If that [semi-]defines you, my advice is to drop everything and focus on yourself. Set realistic incremental goals and get busy with YOUR life (the one you really have an obligation to promote).
If you find this is working, you will need to understand why - later.
