Is it your first time missing/being late? The landlord will usually give you a chance to pay but charge you up the *** in late fees.
If this is a regular thing OR you're on a month to month lease, you should be expected to get your eviction notice by mid month. It's usually a paper that says "3 days to quit or pay"

most of the time you get 30day notice but it depend could be any day now so why not pay
