After the birth of the baby, does the hospital take care of the birth certificate and social security card? Or are these things that the parents have to figure out? I am planning on asking my doctor at next appt. but I'm just trying to figure everything out ahead of time.

Thanks!

Yup... it will be taken care of at the hospital. If you are concerned, you can always double check with the hospital you will be delivering at.

They take care of it. You'll sign something in the hospital. The social security card is mailed out a few weeks later, but you need to go and pay for the birth certificate.

I gave birth at St. Josephs in Burbank, and they had a woman who came by before I was discharged from the hospital and did all the paperwork for the birth cert and ss card. I don't know about other hospitals but it's probably the same everywhere.

well i know the hospital gives u an unofficial birth certificate. so after like 6 weeks i think u have to go get one from ur county. and the social card the hospital sends it in and then u get it in the mail. but im not sure which hospital ull be delivering at so maybe it all depends? i know thats what they did with me.
