I'd not heard of it.

It's both stupid and cruel. It pains me deeply that after years of warnings and examples on the media, some people still don't think about the animals that are dependent on them. That's stupidity. To leave any living thing locked up in a car for more than a few minutes is just cruel. Would he have left his toddler like that?

There is a part of me that would like to see the punishment fit the crime in these cases.

It was an act of stupidity....

He probably loved that dog more than his human partners, his wife or his kids....

They probably had one of them Police funerals for the dog where police form all the local, county and state police agencies spend thousands of tax dollars to leave their jobs, drive their squad cars half way across the state and show up at a funeral for someone/something they didn't even know to display a show of force. Not one of them showed up for my neighbors funeral and he was a veteran of WWII and helped make it possible for these guys to have a police job in a free country.

Wonder why they didn't feel the need to attend that funeral at taxpayers expense?

g-day!

The article I read (see below) was about it happening in Chandler, AZ but the interesting part is that they referenced another incident of the same thing that happened in Phoenix in march of this year.

13 hours in a squad vehicle in 109 degree heat. That's so far beyond negligent.

Both. I'm guessing that the police officer did not want the canine to die, so his actions where stupid. However, even if he did not think the canine would die, his actions were cruel.
