Greedy business has bought our politicians and managed to effectively put a 22% tariff on producing goods (toys, other) in the US. Some believe that this, along with other back-*** political decision making (illegal immigration, decayed morals, defending foreign religious values while outlawing our own) will cause the US to fall in much the same way as the Roman Empire fell. Why are we doing these things and how can we rally each other to force change?

Not a true tariff, but an effective one causing goods to cost more beyond the cost of labor. Usually through high taxes from producing here and very low tariff on China.

We need to produce, not just consume. We are quickly making China the one true superpower. And what do we get in return? A fourth TV in our house. Blue jeans for $15. Defective toys that can kill our kids.

In short to the original question: Greed. Even with the tariffs and poor quality, there is still a greater profit margin for companies to have items made in China than elsewhere in the world. And that is what life revolves around to business. Profit.

As for the other comments, it all points to a decaying law system. Perhaps it is time to revisit the same debates the forefathers had when writing the constitution. What role should governments take in the lives of their people? Without the proper balance on issues, we will simply be another speck in someone's history book.

China makes things cheap. Low labor cost means it is cheaper to have things manufactured in China and shipped to the US. Businesses want to make profit so they do what is cheapest. We used to put tariffs on foreign goods to allow American manufacturers to compete with the cheap overseas labor. With all the free trade agreements, American manufacturing is dead. It is no longer economically viable. Which makes us vulnerable to being cut off from our suppliers.

We buy so much from China because of its cheap labor, but other parts of the world also has cheap labor (Vietnam, Columbia, etc) We are starting to buy from them also. We are actually buying less from China then we did in past years.

Because it is cheap and more and more people are getting poorer so they can't afford to buy things of quality.
