my exhaust tips are pretty beat up and dented on my 2001 kawasaki ninja zx600, its a duel exhaust and i am going to put on two of those exhaust tips that you see on hondas and such, now, ive heard all kinds of different things, back pressure and baffles and such, i went to an exahust shop and they said it wont hurt the bike at all as long as i keep the pipes the same lengh or maybe extend them a couple inches. now, ive seen these choppers and such and they have just straight pipes all the time, is there a difference between mine and theres besides the normal things, will it sound like an indy car or something? how loud will it be? compaired to a harley being a 10 on a sound scale and a 1 being a scooter. im tired of the quiet exhaust and cannot afford another preformance one, Loud Pipes Save Lives ive always said. opinions plz, knowledge is power

Here's a fact, loud doesn't necessarily mean more power. Often times, but not always. I won't go into details such as back pressure, sound waves, reverse wave, pipe length and resonation, but instead I'll give you an example. The stock exhaust on my full dress KZ1000 shaft drive was so quiet I literally could not hear it on the road. Fairings tend to reduce wind noise but also reflect and make more noticable engine and exhaust noise. Even with the fairing, the only noise I was able to hear was from the engine and tranny. Being a touring rider, I loved it. Eventually the exhaust was totally rusted out and unable to fine a stock replacement, I had to use the stock exhaust off of a same year KZ1000 chain drive (same engine). The mufflers were slightly smaller overall with a much smaller crossover system. Not only was it very much louder (annoyingly so), I had to reduce the main jet size from 110 to 102.5, or three sizes. In case you don't know, that meant the louder system was more restrictive and sure to make less power than the orginal quiet system.

As far as those straight drag pipes you see on Harleys go, a straight, unmuffled pipe may make more power in full throttle, high engine rpm applications but a well engineered, baffled system can actually increase low and mid-range power, making the power delivery more tractable.

Wow, loved your write up. Look, it's a Ninja, and I know what you are saying, you like it loud. Just this past weekend, a friend came down to Washington D.C. on a Mini Chopper from Baltimore. I could here him about a block away from my home. However, after riding around town with him and then trailing him half way back to his house, I was kind of glad to see him go because of the noise. However, I did enjoy the day with him.

Now, I have worked on your bike for a few guys, and I know that everyone loves this bike. However, if you can't make modications to the muffler it is a lost cause. No one wants to hear that one can not afford a performance piece when in fact you could afford the purchase of the bike. Perhaps you could peruse a few shops that have broken down bikes that no one is interested in paying to have repaired. They may be able to help you. Or you could go to YAHOO.COM and click on local. Then enter NINJA BIKES and your LOCALITY, from there a few shops will come up in your area.

Loud exhaust systems may save lives, but you won't make any friends with your neighbors (the ones that keep an eye out of their windows at night-the ones that may give you a call if they see anyone lurking around your bike) due to the loud noise you make coming home late at night. In fact, they would probably enjoy seeing someone snatch it away from you so that they could get some peaceful rest.

Do a search from Yahoo on Ninja bike wholesale parts. This is as cheap as you will be able to get. Parts for this bike cost my friend, and you should know that nothing is free these days. If you could join a bike club, I know that where ever they are getting their bikes repaired, they are getting discounts due to the number of bikes in their club.

Being loud also gets the attention of the COPS too!! Don't be so worried about being noticed, sometimes being a creeper has it's advantages. Food for thought, one night a young guy was trying to steal the wheels off of my car, I walked up to him and asked him if he needed any help, he looked so funny at me and then I said... "Let me give you a hand" I reached into my pocket, pulled out my keys, unlocked my trunk. Man, that guy took off running swating flies if you know what I mean. What if I started raising @#$& as I walked up? The element of surprise always work best.

Happy Hunting and
Good Luck
