I have had chronic migraine headaches for three years. I constantly have a headache that lessens and gets worse. I have tried dozens of medications, changed my diet, had MRI's, oxygen therapy... name it and i've done it.
I am just looking for any other ideas that anyone has. I am really desperate, so anything will help, trust me.
Thank you so much!

I have been seeing a Neurologist throughout the years, and he seems to be grasping at straws, just like me.

I've been in the same situation for a very long time...extremely severe migraines, and then almost constant aura/headache in between. The medications I tried (imitrex and cafergot were the best for me) limited the worst pain but seemed to prolong the actual migraine. I had MRI's (apparently there's now spotting on my brain from the severity of my migraines), tried tons of supplements etc. too.

I now don't have chronic migraines, and when I do have a migraine it only lasts 3-4 days and the pain/nausea is nothing compared to what it used to be.

A few diet things helped for me. I found when I drunk water almost continuously things were a little better. Garlic, I discovered isn't great for me. And, as I've knew all along smoking cigarettes makes things considerably worse (but in certain periods have been really important for me).

Acupuncture and regular massages helped a huge amount.

It's not a quick fix, but what's dramatically changed my migraines in the past year has been a number of radical changes. I stopped taking all medications. I left college. I moved to the other coast to be with my partner. I get off the phone with my parents when it starts to feel bad. I have very little contact with the people I used to know. I try to do as much of what I really want as I can. I rest a lot. I don't talk to people when I don't want to. I avoid places with bad lighting and noises/energies I don't like.

For me the migraine is a powerful symptom with a bunch of complex, serious causes. Stopping the migraine requires stopping a lot of other things that you may not be letting yourself see as as hurtful as they really are: work, relationship(s), your whole way of being in the world etc.

When I was trying to get my migraines to stop my mindset and the mindset of the people around me, was basically that I was the problem--too sensitive, making things difficult for other people by always canceling things or not showing up. There's a reason people have migraines and it's not because they're "bad," it's because they're around stuff that's toxic for them (like almost everyone) and the migraine is one way that surfaces (and in some ways protects the person having the migraine). Being good and kind to yourself, whatever you feel that to be, I've found is the best cure.

On another note, one of the most comforting things I ever read about migraines was an essay titled, "In Bed" by Joan Didion in her book "White Album." Migraines are so misunderstood and trivialized by people who don't have them--Didion does a beautiful job describing that and her life with them.

Oh boy, this is right up my alley! Head down to the nearest health food store and purchase a product made by Enzymatic Therapy called Petadolex. Take 1 softgel 3 times a day, everyday. Give it a shot for at least 3 months. If you do not see improvement in your migraines then take the empty bottles back to the store you purchased it from, with your receipts, and get your money back.
I bet you will LOVE the product. But you have to take 1 softgel 3 times a day everyday. If you get migraines on a regular basis, it will be worth it.

Go see a chiropracter. I had migraines for 20 years and decided one day to try this. I swear to God, she fixed the problem and I never got another migraine headache again. I will stake my life on a chiropracter. Try it. You might just like it.

A) trace down your triggers and do away with or find ways to change them. B) If you have it all the time and it only gets worse or better with added stress, dietary changes, etc.. likely the advice to see a chiropractor is a good idea, but check references! C) stress management, stress management, stress management! In whatever ways work best for you... exercise, meditation and proper diet for you personally are commonly used things that sometimes work. The part about proper diet FOR YOU<
Good luck!

I have a friend who is a chiropractor. She suffered for many years from migraine headaches until she saw a chiropractor. After she was pain free for a year she, herself, went to medical school and became a chiropractor. I really do think chiropractors can do more than what they're given credit for.
Hope this helps.

Try to identify the cause of your migraine by keeping a daily food or activity diary.

Especially note foods as possible triggers of migraine headaches. You may be sensitive to a chemical in a food or you may have a food allergy that triggers your headaches. See if you can establish a pattern between something you ate or some unusual activity that caused your headache.

Other migraine causes include changes in routine, such as late rising on a holiday or change of working hours; changes in climate, high winds, loud or high-pitched sounds; bright sunlight or bright artificial light; and prolonged stating at television, movie, or computer screens. Keep these in mind when you compile your diary.

If you are a woman, pay particular attention to the hormonal fluctuations of your menstrual cycle to see if your migraines are connected to changing estrogen levels.
Headaches caused by low blood sugar can be helped by chromium 100 mcg: of the trivalent form three times daily.

Headaches caused by muscle cramping can be helped by evening primrose oil and calcium. The dose for evening primrose oil is four
500-mg capsules in the morning and four 500-mg capsules in the evening for five cycles; if no improvement, discontinue; for calcium, 1,200 mg at bedtime.

If you are postmenopausal and on estrogen: replacement therapy, your medication could be a factor in your migraines. Discuss this with your doctor.

Eat regular meals at regular times to avoid low blood sugar. Never skip meals.

Keep stress under control with stress-reducing techniques.

Adopt a regular exercise program.

TAKE:
The herb feverfew: 150 mg twice a day or as directed on package.

Fish oils: 1,000 mg, 3/day .
Magnesium: 250 mg, 2/day.

IN ADDITION: Sumatriptan, a medication used widely in Europe, has recently been approved for use in the United States. It is self-injected to help stop a migraine headache. Consult with your physician to determine if this may be helpful to you.

The vasodilation in the brain causes inflammation that results in pain, but the exact cause of migraine is unknown. Whatever it is, there's an imbalance in your body that affects your brain, and the pain you are suffering is the symptom.

"Medicines" prescribed treat only the symptoms and NOT the root cause. That's why until now you're still suffering it in spite of "tried dozens of medications" and under the care of a neurologist.

"Name it and you've done it..." What about GANOTHERAPY? Have you tried and done it? Lots of people have tried and done it and it did worked wonders for their health!
