There are so many people that are racist, and so many that claim racism against others, some claims which are false. So many predjudices and stereotypes its ridiculous. Its crap. its not just race issues, but other things as well from being prep, or emo, or even the things you enjoy like gaming. Its pathetic. Some will say gamers are evil because they like killing people on a screen, or just that they are lazy fat people. gamers come in all forms just like everyone else. It doesn't matter what color your skin, or what you like to wear, what country your from, or what you prefer to do with your free time. Is this just from ignorance or what?

I think many factors come into play and it's not simply a case of ignorance, though that certainly contributes.
Your experiences in life affect the way you think and how you were raised too. Society and those around us make an impression on how we view things and your personal preferences and personality all combine to make the reasons for racism (and other prejudices) varied and quite complex.

Each of has as part of our neurological makeup a mechanism that decides immediately upon perceiving an object, whether that object constitutes a threat to us. That's part of the problem. It tends to lead to a natural xenophobia, a fear of others and otherness.

Given that predisposition, it is very easy to reinforce the otherness and inculcate it as "racism." Because it's a neurological perception we can easily convince ourselves that what we perceive is "real."

easy. racism is inevitable as people grow up with racist parents. racist people can be born from non-racist people as well. life situations lead to people being racist. example: if you get robbed and see a black man running down the street with your guitar, you will be pissed off at black people for a while. if it happens again, you may begin to hate black people. then if your black neighbors are louder than all of your other neighbors, leave shopping carts in the street, curse with women and children present and are like animals in just about everyway, you get racist. then you watch the news and they are raping white women and making millions of dollars in the NBA. or killing white women and in the NFL hall of fame. thats how racism breeds. i, however, am not racist at all. im just giving examples

Then by your reasoning (previous poster), I as a black woman should hate white people. It was white men who raped my great-great-grandmothers. It was white men who enslaved them for generations. It was white men who lynched whoever stood up to them during the Jim Crow era. It was white people who created and enforced the rules of apartheid. The other day a group of white jocks kept the entire neighborhood up all night with their raucous laughter. It is white people I see (in my very white neighborhood) washing out their trash cans on the sidewalk leaving a soapy mess. White people make tons of noise on the subway, being drunk and sloppy and crude and noisy.

But I still don't hate white people. I don't wake up in the morning hating my white housemates. I like to keep my dislike personal...I get pissed at individuals, not their race. It is the misconception that all blacks are the same that allows such generalizations to fester.

Some people are afraid of anyone who is different from them in anyway. They don't bother to get to know an individual so pigeonhole or stereotype those they are afraid of.
