Snape wasn't at Hogwarts with Voldemort. Snape was about 36 during the books, he was with Harry's parents at Hogwarts, so he was the same age as Harry's parents would have been, had they been alive. Voldemort was much older than Lily and James, and she made the comment because of so.

Where in Book 6 do you see it saying that Snape was at Hogwarts 50 years ago? Book 5 and Book 7 show that Snape and Lily and James were all at Hogwarts at the same time, and Book 7 confirms that Snape, Lily, and James were all in the same year.
EDIT - did you mean the Advanced Potions book? There are two possibilities ...
1) The book is indeed 50 years old, but it originally belonged to Snape's mother and it was a hand-me-down when Snape took the class at Hogwarts. (Like Helen B said)
2) We're only told that the book was **published** 50 years ago, not that Snape's particular copy was printed 50 years ago. As in the Muggle world, the book can stay in print as long as the demand is there, essentially unchanged, and the pubisher will just have new printings as often as needed. Snape could simply have had a book from a later printing than the first one.

Where did you read that? Snape wasn't at Hogwarts 50 years ago, Tom Riddle was. If you're talking of the Potions book that Harry got from Slughorn, I think that the book might have belonged to Snape's mother when she was herself at Hogwarts. Snape's family was not that well-off, so it was logical that he would have used his mother's old books.

It never said Snape was at Hogwarts when the Chamber of Secrets was opened.

Did you try Eileen Prince, Snape's mother? She seems likely to have been at Hogwart's fifty years before Harry.

Snape wasn't at Hogwarts 50 years ago - he was the same age as Lily.
His copy of Advanced Potions was obviously an old one, perhaps one he'd inherited from his mother.

Hi!
Alright...
Yeah, there seems to be quite a logistics problem here.
The reason: Snape wasn't at school with Voldemort! He was at School at Lily's and James' and Sirius' time.
The only Voldemort classmates we know are Hagrid, Rodolphus Lestrange and Avery. (Book 6).
Where did you read about Snape going to school with him too? Could you give the chapter title?
Try checking it again ;))
Goodluck!

no darling u have that wrong. it was tom riddle who was the one to open the chamber which is why tom was in the chamber. if snape was the sam age as lily and they were at hogwarts 50 years ago then they would have began hogwarts in 1930is era.

Snape wasn't at Hogwarts 50 years ago. He was at school with Harry's parents, he was around during the mauraders era.
If you were talking about his potions book being old, he probably got it from his mom because it seemed like they were probably poor.
