But where is the apology from the Japanes?

War is indeed hell but that is not an excuse for unbelievably brutal treatment of prisoners. The torture and death of allies captured by Japan is appalling and ranks as particularly heinous. Funny how Americans today are arrested in Iraq for minor things compared to the past.

Just one more Japanese atrocity they choose to ignore. Others include:

Nanking (400,000 Chinese killed in 6 weeks). All civilians for the most part.

POW treatment of Allied troops captured. Thousands die at the hands of the Japanese Imperial Army due to starvation, mistreatment, disease and executions.

Forcing Philippine and Chinese women into prostitution for the sexual gratification of their troops.

Chemical and germ warfare research using civilian Chinese as guinea pigs. Unit 731.

The 35 year attempt (1910-1945) to eradicate Korean culture.

The killing of many hundreds of thousands of Asians who fell under control of the Japanese. Philippinos, Chinese, Malay, Korean, Thais, Indonesians.

I lived in Japan for several years and I think the world of Japan today. But the Japanese have steadfastly chosen to ignore their cruel history. Ask a Japanese about WWII and the only thing you hear is "Hiroshima and Nagasaki!" True, the atomic bomb attacks were horrific and thousands were killed. But it ended the war. Period.

Japan would not be the vibrant democracy without the US occupation.

An apology is an acceptance of evil deeds. The Japanese chose to forget.

My late grandfather fought the Japanese in the jungles of Burma as a Chindit. He saw many horrific things that they did to wounded and captured fellow British soldiers (men tied up with barbed wire, others nailed to a tree and used as bayonet practice etc...) and at the end of the war he said that we would never get an apology from animals. He bore them no ill will. He said he just felt sorry for them.

Hmmm.... I am trying to think of a racial, ethnic or religious group that is not "owed" an apology from some other group.

I agree with the previous message, war is hell, but not only that, but history is hell. If anyone is going to spend their life thinking that they or their community is "owed" something from someone else they are going to have a long dissapointed life.

It is ancient history. You should be more concerned with your and your community's future than the past.

"Inhumane?" ?!?!?

Its called the Bataan DEATH March, and you're upset because its "inhumane"?!?!?!

"Oh those poor Chinese, they probably never even let them take a rest, those big meanies!"

Grow up. "War is hell" is the right response; besides, if everyone had to apologize for every wrong they've ever done, there would be no progress in the world. I have a feeling you enjoy your Nintendo Wii, your Sony TV, or your Japanese car; could the Japanse have ever advanced to that level if they were so concerned with changing the past like you say you want them to be?

Yes and they may get an apology but not right away.

It has been about 65 years so they are not in a rush.

None needed. Apologies are for weak-in-the-knees liberals. The Japanese paid a heavy price for their sins of war.

60+ years ago let it go.....We blasted 1/4 of their country back to the stone age. That was punishment enough.
