There are spoilers in this question if you have not yet read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows so beware.

I was very sad when Fred Weasley died in Harry Potter book seven, poor George. It is so sad when only one twin dies because most twins are so close. I did love however that J. K. Rowling told us about Harry, Hermione, and Ron’s children and their names and if they were named after someone.

In Wikipedia there is a Harry Potter family heritage (linked below) and it shows that George has a child he named Fred. Did Rowling give an interview where she said that? Please give it as a source. Or if you know if it is true and how. Thanks.

Ok, thanks. Makes me feel a little better. I thought it would be a funny joke if George named his first child, a daughter, Fred. LOL. They do love to make people laugh.

Yes. In the July 30th online interview, Rowling said George named his first born son Fred.

"Camille: How is george getting along without his twin
J.K. Rowling: Well, I don't think that George would ever get over losing Fred, which makes me feel so sad. However, he names his first child and son Fred, and he goes on to have a very successful career, helped by good old Ron."

All I know is that in one interview she said she was thinking about writing a Harry Potter Encyclopedia to give information on everyone. To tell what Harrys parents lives were like and what happened to other people after the war...things like that. She may have thought about George having a child a mentioned it in an interview because she'll put it in the encyclopedia. That's the only thing I can think of but I can't say it for sure. Hope someone knows the answer.

Although not mentioned in the novel, Rowling said in a web chat that George never does fully get over Fred's death. However, he does go on with his life, turning Weasleys' Wizarding Wheezes into a "money spinner" with Ron. George later names his first child and son after his twin, although we don't know who he married or how many children there were.[6]

Yes, George did name his first-born son after his dead twin. Here's the link to the interview in which Rowling stated this: http://www.bloomsbury.com/harrypotter/content.asp?sec=3&sec2=1

The problem with trying to find out information about what happened to our the characters after the final book is ridiculous.

No one who has followed the HP series through 7 books should have to rely on interviews given by JKR, internet websites or some upcoming encyclopedia to find out what happened to our beloved characters.

Everything should have been written in the final book. JKR should have truly completed the saga. No one would have objected to the 7th book being long, if we just could have had some type of closure to the entire Harry Potter saga.
