It flows faster on the inside of the bend where heavier particles accumulate. ever wonder why during a race the cars go towards the inside of a turn. they go faster. same with water.
This is good because different sediments and life live in different varieties of flows.
Straight rivers tend to be faster (just like a highway or an expressway) depending of the land relief (high or low) This is all in the law of physics

A bend in a river causes turbulence which reduces the flow rate. Different flow rates improve water quality, as high flow and low flow both have advantages and disadvantages.
