It all depends on your opinion!! Everyone has there opionion on this topic. You can ask 100 people and get 100 different answers. Just do the research, look at spec sheets, and you make the decision yourself! As for "Charles and Tendersound" your both wrong about "AMD" with the multitasking! I have an "AMD" 4600+ X2 Dual Core Processor with Hyper Transport Technology, and in my "opinion" it blows away Intel with multitasking.

Since you don't want to hear the statistics as posted by most people asking about the differences between Intel and AMD, just an experts opinion. Both companies produce similar produces except at the moment Intel has a jump on the market with it's new Core 2 Quads that AMD has nothing to directly compete with against, though AMD does have new products in the works to compete, but they probably won't be released til next year some time. I build computers for a living, unless my client asks for a specific manufacturer of processor, or they are using specific programs that I know look for a specific brand of processor, I generally use and AMD to reduce their expense out of pocket. Top end AMD Dual Cores are directly comparable against Intel Core 2 Dual Cores except Intel still charges upto twice as much. I am running a high end AMD dual core on this machine, and have them in several other machines I have running around me, though in the past I have had all Intel processors too.

If you need a reliable, fast and trustworthy processor for multitasking, choose Intel.

I'm a computer technician, I've never had issues with Intel, there's always been problems with AMD. If you try AMD on multitasking, it'll get stuck. If you give a command to AMD and Intel, Intel will do it faster.

I had a case, Intel Pentium 4 heated up to 90 Celsius degrees (due to broken cooler by an amateur), and it didn't burn. AMD wouldn't last 60 degrees.

I've tried both AMD & Intel Core 2 Duo, the same specifications. You can run 3-4 antiviruses at the same time with Intel. With AMD, I put a 2nd antivirus, and it kept crashing.

Um, why don't you want to know what AMD is better for, or intel for that matter? That's what an 'expert' will tell you.

Both companies make excellent processors. Few people can tell the difference, when running a computer with intel versus AMD when running programs / comparing response time and capabilities.

AMD processors are almost always cheaper than intel. If you want a good processor for a good price, buy AMD.

They really are remarkably similar. Near as the casual user can tell, there is absolutely no difference between them. A 3.0GHz Intel and 3.0Ghz AMD will perform so close, that for all intents and purposes they might as well be identical. About the only real difference is in price, in which case AMD kicks Intel's ***.

Short answer,

Your asking a very one sided question. Each processor has it's strengths and weaknesses. Just like people do. Some processors excel at completing tasks better (AMD great for single app performance but not so great on multithreading).

Maybe you should be asking something like "What recommendation of processor do you have for my new machine."

Hopefully this helps otherwise you will just end up getting a ton of fanboy/girl responses and not the information your looking for.

They both work well with Windows and Linux, but AMD gives more "Bang for the buck". Speed is relative, except for gaming, so buy the best you can afford.

This is like asking if a Lexus is better than a BMW. They both do the same thing; they're just different brands. It's largely a matter of which you prefer.

they are for the moment right now do to internal shakeups and the acquisition of ATI but their coming back with all new hardware this fall and even more after a few months gurenteed to kill intel.
