3 - (x + 5) = 3x + 6

In order to solve this, first remove the parentheses. If you remove the parentheses, though, change the addition sign to a subtraction sign. If there was a subtraction sign there, you would change it to an addition sign. Do this only because there is a subtraction sign before the parentheses (this is a procedure to do when this happens):

3 - (x+5) = 3x + 6
= 3 - x - 5 = 3x + 6

Now subtract 5 from 3:

3 - x - 5 = 3x + 6
= -2 - x = 3x + 6

Add x to both sides and combine like terms:

-2 - x = 3x + 6
= -2 - x + x = 3x + 6 + x
= -2 = 4x + 6

Now subtract 6 from both sides:

-2 = 4x + 6
= -2 -6 = 4x + 6 - 6
= -8 = 4x

Finally, divide by 4 on both sides to solve for x:

-8 = 4x
= -8/4 = 4x/4
= -2 = x

This is your answer: -2 = x.

Hope this helps!

3-(x+5)=3x+6
3-x-5=3x+6
-x-2=3x+6
Now move terms to opposite sides to give"

-8 = 4x
-2=x
