I am 19 years old, and currently about to learn to drive. Can my parents teach me while I have a learner's permit, to get my license? How long do they need to teach me for, before I can get a license and do they have to follow like guidlines and stuff from like the DMV, etc?

Also, I live at home, my parents bought me my car. Can they put me on their insurance policy? Also, does this mean I don't need to sign or have to pay or worry about any thing for insurance?

Please let me know. Thanks.

I live in NEW YORK.
What are the rules for this in this state?

It depends on what state you live in. You can do parent taught drivers ed in Texas. Contact your local DMV...they should be able to tell you. They will also have the forms etc....
But in our state you do not have to have drivers ed if you are over 18. Check on that as well.

I taught my kids that driving is a privilege not a right. They had to pay for their own insurance and gas.

I think the rules change after you are 18, so I think that your parents can teach you instead of going to a driving school. I think you have to have your permit for 6 months before you can get your license, but ask the DMV they will let you know for sure.

You're over 18, therefore an adult. Look up the requirements to get a license when you are over 18 on the web page for your state, which you neglected to mention, and find out.

As far as insurance goes, get your own and pay the bill when it comes due.

Or, to put it another way, grow up and start taking some responsibility for your life.

These answers may vary by state, but do vary by insurance provider. If they bought you the vehicle, is your name on the title or theirs? If your name is on the title, you would have to have the insurance policy in your name. If their name is on the title, they can add you as a secondary driver on their insurance.

If you have had drivers education and no prior driving record, it will get you a discount on your policy. Since you are considered a new driver, it will cost more to insure yourself. It is safe to assume that you haven't established credit either. With you being a new driver and possibly no prior credit, it would be cheaper to have your parents add you as a secondary driver on their poilicy. If you want to build credit, this would be a great way to start.

Best bet, call an insurance agent in the area and talk to them. As long as you are living with your parents, you can be under their household. BUT the second you move out, you will have to be split out of household and establish your inssureance policy under your name only.

A Drivers Ed course will lower your insurance cost. If the car is in your name, you need to get your own insurance policy. Your parents cannot insure a car they do not own.
