Okay, if a marriage license was never filed at the court house, was the marriage ever legal?

I am not sure. I have heard that if the signed marriage license was never filed, the marriage isn't valid. I have also heard that if the signed marriage license exists, filed or not, the marriage is valid.

Perhaps its different by state. I would call the courthouse and ask someone in the marriage and divorces division or seek the advice of a lawyer.

I don't think so.. I know that here before a priest marries anyone, you have to go to the county and file for a marriage license. The priest then has so many day to get it to the county after the actual ceremony.

Check with your county. . .
