Someone pulled up next to me at a stop light and pointed it out. I turned off my AC and it seemed to stop. The car didn't stop or shudder or anything. It was normal enough to drive home

Overheating, belts broke, a/c pump froze up, many possibilities, need more details, did the car keep going, did it die?

This happened to me with a 72 Chevy Monte Carlo once. Turned out the AC compressor was seizing up and the smoke was the belt melting on the hot compressor pulley.

Is it steam or electrical wiring??? Ya got to be under the hood to see what is making the smoke... Take it to the shop and they will trouble shoot...
