Oxygen is an element.symbol O. It is not made up of something else, it is a pure substance. It is a diatomic gas O2. Ozone is a triatomic molecule of oxygen, O3. The atom oxygen has 8 protons, 8 neutrons in the nucleus and 8 electrons in the energy levels. There are other isotopes with a different number of neutrons.

oxygen is made of oxygen atoms. each atom consists a nucleus and electrons! nucleus consists protons and neutrons. and all these neutrons, protons and electrons have come from the big bang. after the big bang, it has been calculated that almost 90%of hydrogen and 10% Helium were formed. From them, by beta decay, all protons, neutrons, anti proton, anti neutron, more electrons were formed and they combined and formed different elements. oxygen is one of these elements!

oxygen is a actual substance all by itself, just like iron. it is made up of protons, electron, and neutrons. the whole reason the elements are different from each other (like oxygen vs. iron) is how many of each proton, electron, and neutrons the substance has and how they react with one another.
