Where did Europeans get the idea that it's acceptable to only bathe once per week?

U.S. citizens are about the only society that is obsessed with daily bathing.

Actually perfume was meant to cover body odor before regular bathing became popular.

You may have in mind the Dark Middle Age when America was just discovered and was full of adventurers, prostitutes, convicted European escaped criminals and so on!!!

I spent a couple of years in Europe and I never knew this fact. Thanks for enlightening me... I wonder how they could have been so hygenic considering what you are saying. BTW, great source... its better to make sweeping statements by using just your paranoid brain because why bother looking up a fact (it might get in the way of any sanity and logic).

Nobody ever died a hygenic death if they miss their daily shower. It's purely an American thing. The rest of the world rolls their eyes and laughs at us about it. They're not the ones that are out of step.. we are.

They used to never even bathed before more modern times!
