check your motivation. Do you want to act to be close to movie stars and be famous? Or do you have a passion inside you that demands to be explored?
If you're thinking about being an actor for the first reason or for money then don't get into it. Definately not. Acting is a touph business to break into and touph to maintain once you're in. It is survival of the fittest. That fitness is PASSION! If you have the passion the embarrassment won't be a very scary obstacle.
After some self honesty- or amidst indecision- go for it! I'd suggest signing up for some local small time classes just to see how it feels. You can always go more advanced later if it turns out to be your thing.

I did a show many years ago. I was a little scared of the whole thing, but I did it. Afterwards, I was even more scared to try anything again.

Then (years later) I became involved in Theatre Sports, then a theatre youth group. Through them, we developed our own script and play. We performed it and it was great. I have now been doing theatre for nearly 15 years.

However, I do so very much regret having given up so long ago. I could feel the passion to do it yet I listened to my fears and ignored my dreams. Don't repeat the same mistake. Ignore your fears and listen to your heart. If the thought of acting is something that fills you with joy, passion or energy, then just dive in and get your feet wet.

You will not embarrass yourself anymore than I did, nor anyone else for that matter. Everyone I have ever spoken to about theatre/acting have had moments where they were concerned about embarrassing themselves, and you know what, it rarely happens that way.

It takes a lot of courage and strength to open yourself up like one does when acting, yet it is also one of the most exhilarating experiences ever.

Final word - Be what you wanna be - Wanna be you.

David Mamet in his book, True and False, notes that one characteristic that all actors must have to succeed is Courage. So, my Cowardly Lion, see the Wizard and get some. You dont need a class so much as to be in a school play, so tryout for the next one.

If it something you want to do or try, go ahead, no one is stopping you. who knews maybe if you try it you will love it. don't be scared. if you mess up on something try to thing of something to make a joke out of it, if tht works you can become a comedic actor. but you should try because you don't want to grow up think what if. live life to the fullest

You shouldn't act then. You have to be free from self-consciousness. You cannot let it run your life. It seems the successful actors love it and cannot imagine doing anything else. They do not let fear paralyze them.
