You can major in anything and still become a doctor as long as you and your college advisor work the required math and science courses into your curriculum. I personally chose to major in biology(premed). To me, this seems like the smartest thing to do because with majoring in a science you're already required to take the science courses the MCATS require, where as if you majored in something else and just worked the sciences into your current curriculum you'd have to manage your major, along with the added sciences.

Hope this makes sense. Email me if you need any more help. :-)

First -- transfer to the best university that you can get into. This will probably be a state university (as most of the prestigious private schools take few transfer students) -- but make sure it is the best in your state. For example, any UC school over a CSU school. University of Florida over Florida State, Ohio State University over any other public school in Ohio, etc. If you don't know the relative rankings, look at US News & World Report.

Second -- you can get into medical school with any major -- as long as you do well in the courses that are required. That being said -- you have a better shot gettng in if you take more than the minimum required. Majoring in Biology or Chemistry will do that for you. But there ar eother health related disciplines (bio-engineering, for example) that will also give you what you need.

You should aim for the bachelors of sciences in Biology. You could get a BA but you are so close, so why not opt for the BS?

Most people major in biology because the premed requirements coincides with the biology major reqs. In fact, you can major in anything you want just as long as you fulfill the med school requirements.

After your 1st year at the university, you should think about taking the MCATs. However, you should have already taken 1 year of chemistry
1 year of biology
1 year of organic chemistry
1 year of english
1 year of physics

If not, I would hold off on the MCATs until I've taken those requirements!

Good Luck!

Best advice: Check with the med schools that interest you, and get their recommendations--they're not all the same!

As far as choices go, be sure you don't waste time with a BA, get a full BS -- in whatever you decide to major. Based upon my cousin's experience (a new MD), I'd say go for biology or biochemistry. There certainly are schools that offer "Pre-Med" curricula--if that's an option for you, then that is probably th best way to go. Again, communicate with the med schools, competition is tight to get in, so you may not get into the school that's your first choice--so talk to a number of them.

Very best of luck!

Ask your advisor. Some colleges have a Pre-Med major, some med schools like certain majors. So, ask a med school admissions person.

Well, for pre-med you can be any major. But you still have to take all the core science courses ( chem, bio, physics, anatomy) regardless of your major. So its often easier just to major in a biologicial or physical science.

I'd advise you to attend a university that has a highly-rated pre-med program, and talk with the advisors in that department.

Any degree - Spells - Alpha November Yankee - elect the least perplexing one for you - Or one so which you may use while your airline occupation fails to materialize - I in many circumstances propose "meteorology" (be a weatherman for television or NOAA) - Or "languages" - i.e. Spanish, French, Russian, Mandarin -
