My pipe threader isn't making the threads deep enough, every time I screw my fittings on it smokes because of the friction and makes shavings where the threads contact. Any ideas on what is going on?

There should be an adjustment for the depth of the thread. Make sure your dies are sharp. You may need to buy new ones.

Your pipe threader should smoke and make shavings. You can cut down on the smoke by using lots and lots of oil. The dies are designed so the thread depth progressively increases. This helps make a good seal in the final connection. The die should be fine unless it has been used a lot or abused.

Sounds like your dies might be out of alignment or dull or need to remove them clean out holders in case chips and oil could be trowing them out. This is on an electric threader like Rigid or along those lines.
