Why is America so censored on the topic of sexuality on television?

Why are we trying to censor so many things out from the American people? Words, Violence, and the topic at hand Sexuality.

Are we really that prudish here in the "free" world. Are we still living in the dark ages where the talk of anything related to sex was a shameful thing? European countries don't have the same strict guidelines when it comes to sex, nudity, language, and television subject matter that we have here. People are wanting so many things to be censored on television, that when a movie comes out, its been edited to death and doesn't compare to the original. People state that they don't want their children seeing these things on the televison, yet they still refuse to pick up the remote and change the channel themselves.

I mean, if you don't want to watch or don't want your family to see something on televison, then pick up the remote control and change the channel yourself.

I know this seems like a basic rant, but i'm just tired of seeing shows torn apart.

I don't know why other than you have a large, powerful christian population frightened to death of real life language and imagery.

We had the Sopranos up here on a Canadian channel - it was great. Then A & E started showing it again and its just cut to ribbons, not the same show at all! Same with films. So we now rent practically everything. Pathetic.

Agree - don't want to see it, don't watch it.

Wow! Great question.I know exactly what you mean.
I was once watching this channel,not American though and they had no censor at all.I guess America being a 'free' country it has it's strict side..not to mention laws.

They censored so many things on television as if children waste much of their time watching t.v.The internet on the other hand..oh man

Because we live in a close minded society, In Alabama they are trying to ban alcohol. Everyone should have a choice, Its our constitutional and God given right to choose. People are willingly giving up their rights to choose they are letting the government and other people decide what they watch,eat,drink,sleep etc etc when the government in itself is failing like the FDA what a joke.I remember when passion of the Christ came out people were trying to get it thrown out of the movies. Like you said if you don't like it walk out of the movie and ask for your money back,if you don't like it change the channel, if you don't like the video games don't buy them. People are blaming everyone else for their poor parenting skills. Stop letting out children sit around, getting fat, on the Internet, on the video games. I was telling my wife the other day the learning channel use to talk about sex education, it would show the human body in a learning way,child birth in detail, now its nothing, or its incredibly censored if they do show it, now what. Why is it that the countries who are not so censored have lower crimes look at Arabic countries they are extremist they censor everything.

The morals are slightly backwards while it is composed of that. issues that are commonly used, like going to the showering room and not allowed, yet cutting someones heart out is merely high quality, its entertainment. Very unusual. BTW the information is censored much greater.

You are right. It's a basic rant. Children don't need to see the garbage. They've already seen it before a remote can be used.
