Percentages are not difficult once you understand the formula in which to calculate them.

Using problem 1 as an example, you would set up the equation as follows:

60/30 = x/100
You want to find out what percent (x/100)

If you cross multiply the two fractions, you get:

6000/30 =x

Divide 6000 by 30 and you get:

200 = x

60 is 200% of 30

2. 26% of 72

You want to find how much out of 72 is 26%
26/100 = x/72

Again, cross multiply
1872 = 100x

Divide each side by 100 to get the x alone

18.72 = x

18.72 is 26% of 72

3. 350 seats in an auditorium, 140% number of seats in the original auditorium, how many were in the original auditorium?

140/100 = x/350

Cross multiply:
140x=35000

Divide by 140:
x=250

350 is 140% of 250
