I believe that the reason(s) are embedded in the culture of any particular country.

If you grow up with cricket in your culture you are more likely to embrace it, if it isn't in your culture then you will know nothing much about cricket and not want to.

The places where cricket is a major sport are places where British colonisation occurred. Not all of those embraced cricket though. In the case of the USA they delighted in doing things that were different than the British way. Driving on the right hand side of the road instead of the left, using a decimal currency instead of pounds shillings and pence, changing the way they use dates putting the month first instead of the day ect. No wonder the USA did not take up cricket - it was way too English.

It has nothing to do with race or religion as it is played in countries with different racial origons and different religions.

Why isn't cricket popular in leading countries like U.S.A, Russia, Brazil, Germany, China, Canada, Japan and Argentina.

I have asked myself that numerous times. Especially with Canada being part of the Commonwealth, why hasn't it taken to cricket. Argentina embracing a very English past time and that is Polo similar to Brazil with soccer. I don't want to stereo type but Germany and Japan love intricate games, like soccer and cricket certainly has that. A game of chance. U.S.A are competing at soccer and rugby so this is another step in its sporting revolution. Russia I am not sure.

Test matches were very lengthy and boring. One day matches infused some interest and some more countries have joined the cicketing club. Twenty - 20s may attract more countries; provided umpiring improves.
