Over the years, many teams have pulled off trades during the regular season to get them that 'little' extra to help in the playoffs.

2006
Carolina obtained Mark Recchi at the trade deadline and Doug Weight at the end of January

Two picks (and Gerber's erratic play) that helped them become Stanley Cup champs

Stuart Scott was quoted as saying, "The rich got richer." when the Colorado Avalance traded for Rob Blake in the 2000-2001 season. Blake after playing since 1990 for Los Angeles Kings, was acquired by the Colorado Avalanche during the 2000-2001 season. He made such a solid team even better by adding depth to their defensemen core of Bourque, De Vries, Foote, and Skoula. Blake came in and made a great impact in only 13 regular season games with the Av's, while scoring 2 goals and adding 8 assists. In the playoffs, he performed again ranking 6th in points during those 23 games(6G+13A=19pts) to help the Av's win their 2nd Stanley Cup since moving from Quebec (the Nordiques). Looking back, this addition to the team was one that really gave them that extra boost to get to the finals, especially against the LA Kings in the Western Conference Semifinals.

Rangers get Jaromir Jagr for Anson Carter, And Washington picks up half of jagr's salary for 3 years. This was slightly prior to the trade deadline of the 03 04 season.

I can think of two
The Islanders landing Butch Goring for Billy Harris and Dave Lewis...........and then winning their first Stanley Cup 3 months later

Patrick Roy going to Colorado. Sealed the deal for the Avalanche's first cup 5.5 months later.

Roloson going to the Oilers then Oilers going all the way! If he didn't get injured, Oilers would have had that cup. Roli would've won Conn Smythe too. Another one is Ryan Smyth going to the Islanders. Isles wouldn't have made the playoffs if he wasn't there.

In recent memory, Ryan Smyth going to the Islanders. Without his grit, I don't think the fishermen would've made it to the playoffs (or maybe they could've with my Leafs breaking down in the final game against them).

Goring would top my list.
Roloson would also be huge.
