Varies greatly depending on the individual and the luck of the day as well as size of baby, position, how much fluid and your BMI. Some are quite clear and others just an outline really.
Here is a great site showing examples of how formed the genitals are at different stages and shows what you are likely to see on the scan at 12 weeks.

I has one of these before paid for privately and they wouldnt tell me the sex as they said it is not very accurate at 12 weeks.
The 12 weeks scan and the baby does look more like a baby and you will be surprised at the difference from your 8 week scan!
Good luck X

My friend had a 3 d scan at 12 1/2 weeks they told her she was having a boy. She had a boy. It is much easier to see the boy part then the girls.

No, you will not be able to find out the sex of the baby. They can barely start to do that at around 15 weeks, and even then it is better to wait until you are about 19 weeks or farther. They should give you an ultrasound at around 20 weeks to check up on things and that is probably when you will find out!

I don't think they can, unless he's very, very, very well endowed.
When I went to see my beautiful little boy at 12 weeks I burst into tears, it does depend how they are laid but mine was really clear. You see the head and arms and legs moving about, and of course the heartbeat, it's amazing, I do think you'll have to wait to find out the sex when you're 21 weeks. Good luck with the bundle of joy and enjoy the peace and quiet, it ain't gonna last long ;0)

You can't find out the sex of the baby till 20weeks but thats isn't 100%. You can see more at 12 weeks, but the 20 week one will be very clear

I wish I could've found out that soon. They didn't give me any indication of the sex when I had mine done. But now I've just got a few more weeks until I can find out. Good Luck!

no honey...you cant see the sex at 12 weeks...later on maybe - but even that can be uncertain.
when i had scans..i thought, in the early stages..mine looked like little peanuts in their shells...you know, that sort of shape.
its early days...and, as long as baby is healthy -dont worry about what sex it might be...lucky you - good luck!! (i had twins...double trouble!!)
EDIT: for the person answering called FOOLME..what a complete TWONK you are...get a life!!

We found out at 19 on our first and 20 on our second. I think before the 17th, it is too small to detect exactly whose part is whose. Sometimes even at 20, their little legs are in the way or they just wont give up the goods.
Good Luck on your soon to be new arrival!
