When I first saw the question I thought of Dilfer. I'll add another old school one from my team. When Phil Simms went down, Jeff Hostetler took over to lead the Giants to their SuperBowl 25 victory. He held on to a few starting positions and backup roles the rest of his career. That one season he was good enough for a title though.

I think there come along very few teams that can win a SB without a star QB. I really believe that the Ravens and Bucs were just those kind of teams, (like the Bears.) I think Dilfer and Johnson are both good picks.

(But it would be unfair to include McMahon in this list because he was very special for the team that season- besides with the Bears that year you could have removed any FOUR starters and they STILL could have beaten any team in the league!)

(Also unfair to include Rothlisberger - time will tell is he is truly great of not, but the year the Steelers won the SB they needed EVERYBODY, plus God's help, some lucky rabbit's foots, the right allignment of the stars, AND a few corrupt refs!)

Trent Dilfer, no question. The Baltimore Ravens won the Super Bowl DESPITE Dilfer, not because of him. All Dilfer had to do to win the Super Bowl was show up. The Defense did all the work.

Your question would be better stated by saying, "What's the least productive QB from a team that won a Superbowl?"
Because there are a select few QB's to make it into the NFL and for Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer to not only make it to the NFL, but to play as long as they have, I don't think you can say either of them "suck" You might not like either of them, but you can't say that they "suck" They might be back ups now, but take a look at how long they have been in the league. Do some research before you let your little pea size brain do the talking for you. "Defenses win Championships" - Vince Lombardi

Vote Dog, Doug Williams led the Buccaneers to 3 playoff appearances, and an NFC Title game , in 4 years, in the late 70s - early 80s. He got into a contract dispute with the Bucs and ended up going to the USFL. After he left the Bucs, they didn't make the playoffs again until '96. And they lost at least 10 games a year in all of those years except one.

When the USFL shut down, in '86, Gibbs, who was his QB coach back in Tampa, brought him in to back up Schroeder on the Redskins. Schroeder got hurt. Williams stepped in and won games, so he kept the starting job throughout the playoffs, and to a SB win against my beloved Broncos.

Now, I have to root for my Fresno State guys.......but although Trent Dilfer wasn't completely horrible as a starting QB ( he won a lot of games )....I still think he's the worst QB to ever win a Super Bowl.

Dilfer without a question. Every game was a measure of how long he could hold on until he screwed up. Ray Lewis and that great D is what won that championship.

I think it is easily Brad Johnson. Even though no one has ever seen it, Dilfer has a lot of talent. Johnson, even when he was in his early twenties, plays like the thirty-five year old man he is now.
Although both are my top 2, I think Johnson distinctly wins the award.
