well electic mowers of corse, are easier to use and requer little to no maintence, no oil, gas, or needing to greese and fittings. though, with an electric mower, you do have to worry about the electric cord and you cant let your grass get to long or the mower wont be able to handle it. gas, you get more toque and power out of the engine. you can cut right through foot tall grass without killing the motor, were with an electric lawn mower, it wont be ablet o handle it. and like the person said before me, the new lawn mowers are extremely easy to use. some even come with electic start, and as long as you do all the maintence on them, they will last 2-3 times longer then an electic mower. take a look at some of the new gas mowers made by toro, you might like them. i have a toro that is 10 years old and still runs like a champ. i would go with gas, but itsup to you. good luck with your new lawn mower

There is another option that nobody has talked about. Electric Start Gas Powered Mowers. Thats a gas powered mower with a battery and key-starter just like a car! You get the best of all worlds with a machine like that.
I have seen them at Sears in the Lawn & Garden section.

I chose an electric mower because I didn't want to mess with the gas and oil and pulling a rope to get it to start. I don't have a very big lawn so really didn't need a lot of heft. I have never had a problem with it except one day when the power was off for some reason. I have never been sorry.

The quality of cut is determined by how sharp the blade is. Electric mowers are nice because they are quiet. They also weigh much less than gas mower if corded, which means no need for self propelling. Gas mowers are nice because they do not need to be plugged in. But noisy and need gas and oil added routinely. Gas and corded electric mowers can last for decades. The rechargeable types need batteries periodically. Ultimately it is in the eye of the beholder as to which is the better mower. No matter how much people want to intellectualize choice it boils downs to personal preferences and matter not how pragmatic you attempt to be.

Modern gas power ones (like the current Sears models) all start on the first pull which eliminates the only step that requires a lot of muscle (if you had to keep pulling to get started).

The problem with the electric ones is you need a heavy duty extension cord and you need to keep it out of the way so you don't chop it up with the blade.

I think all things considered a gas one is easier to deal with (and is no worse for the environment since the electricity for the electric ones needs to be generated at a power plant anyway).

better for a woman to have a electric lawn mower because it lighten the job. It will make the job fast because it has automatic switch, smooth and easy to grad on to the grass. Electric lawn mower move easily to the ground. Compared to he gas lawn mower it makes polution to the soroundings, it is so heavey and danger to our soroundings because it has gas it may exploer if have a leaks.

you can go to most home improvements websites and they will normally have reviews.

Electric mowers are great because you won't have to deal with gas or fumes, they are not as loud. and usually lighter.
down side, still requires some of the regular maintenance (cleaning, sharpening blades, etc) and will not pack as much horse power as some of the gas models.

Gas are great because there is more selection. usually have more feature and power. allow you to mow more without stopping (either running out of extension cord/having to move the cord to a different outlet or having to recharge the mower) and because they are self propelled it makes mowing in inclines easier.
Drawbacks. have to keep gas in the house. having to deal with fumes

get a gas mower. some strong masculine single guy in your neighborhood will see you mowing and having a hard time at it. he'll probably offer to mow your lawn for you.

Try Consumer Reports - they most likely both have pros and cons - Id say the electric ( even tho more expensive) would be my best guess for you - theres hardly any maintenence on one ( no tune ups, no fuel , no oil changes) - id say the blades would need sharpening once a year and basic cleaning of the underside of grass.

I prefer the electric over the gas - it's less messy

you really just have to be cognoscente of where the power cord is that's the only draw back.
