If he is suspended for multiple years then will they get that cap money back?

I don't think the league makes exceptions for suspended players.
Pac-man, I believe, counts only his pro-rated signing bonus towards the cap this season.
So, if Vick is suspended, I would imagine it would be the same.

Although it hasn't been made public, a few friends and, I were discussing this on myspace the other day. I suspect the Falcons will be off the hook for the majority of the cap hit. The only thing they are resposible for is the signing bonus money. They are not responsible for any of this years salary because he was suspended by the league before the start of training camp. So therefore the cap hit on Vick should be small. I'm sure we'll hear more about that situation as the whole legal drama unfolds.

PS: Personally I don't think he should collect a nickel IF all these allegations are proven to be true. If he is found guilty then he need to pay a huge fine, serve some time in jail AND do some community service for an organization such as the ASPCA of somehting of that nature.

Good Luck with the rest of your answers!

I read where one problem with Vick being suspended is that he does count about $23 million against the $109 million salary cap.

That was one reason they didn't try to trade or release him in the off-season, even before these dogfighting indictments came down. They would have owed him guaranteed money on his contract and that amount would have counted against the salary cap as a one-time hit.

That is, they still owe him $23 million in guaranteed money from his contract. And, to release him would mean that they would have to pay him the rest of the $23 million and it would count against this year's cap.

The only way they could get around that is if he pleads guilty or is found guilty, to where the Falcons could sue him for breach of contract (conduct detrimental to the team or whatever). But, they have to keep him on the team to see how the court cases come out, or else forfeit the $23 million.

Now, they could still go after him later if he's guilty and get their $23 million back. But, that wouldn't give them any cap relief for this season.

FINALLY, an intelligent question about the Vick situation!

Yeah once he is officially suspended, there is no more salary and no more "salary cap." He's done! If he does 12-18 as a result of a plea bargain then a further 2 year NFL suspention, THEN if he tries to hold Atlanta to what is left of his contract (if any) then they sue him for violating the terms of the contract and he's truly toast.

To our friend above who said the Falcons will suck and 8 mil won't save them, Vick is worth a hell of a lot more than 8 mil (somebody said 23!)

Sure they will suck and maybe Vick's cap money won't save them this year, but it sure as heck won't hurt either!

well the NFL doesnt have guaranteed contracts. only a signing bonus is guaranteed. so if vick is suspended he will not get paid and yea that will alleviate some of their cap room

they are still gonna suck this year so i dont think an extra 8 Mill will help that much
