Well, atleast when they left Malaysia, it was after giving independence 50yrs ago. I'm a Malaysian Indian although my ancestors are from India centuries ago. We still practise monarchy system, driver is on the right, all the British universities are recognised with some of them having campuses in Malaysia, follow the english legal system, tiger pies are still very much famous, even the bronze statue of Sir Francis Light from the 17th century is still excellently maintained.

You make it sound like someone in the British Gov just decided to arbitrarily break-up India just for a laugh. The truth of the matter is a lot more involved as you can find out on any web-site that discusses the history of the place.
Northern Ireland is a completely different situation and doesn't stand up to comparison.
KooKoo - you are bananas if you think that all the British Empire did was go around the world f*cking it up! Watch the "What have the Romans ever done for us?" sketch by Monty Python to see what I mean.

The UK had only 0.25 million people in India during the Raj and they left after 400 years but never once called themselves Indian. Now there are 20 times as many Indians and Pakistanis in the UK and most call themselves "British" believe it or not. Never mind the division , going to India in the first place was a bigger disaster than multiculturalism

I'd like to point out that 2 world wars are extremely expensive. In 1917 the war cost Britain £6m per DAY! Without money it is tough to maintain an Empire. And I think it was a good idea, keeping it would have been better for Britain economically when she needed it most but it just goes to show how screwed up religion is
Atheism for the world's religion

dividing the sub continent was not a good idea, caused poverty for to many, northern Ireland had been going on for far to long and hopefully resolved, we all have the same god we all have different paths to get to this entity ,its how we get there that matters. all people of any conscience should be spiritualists, look it up you'll see what i mean

You forget the many many Christians, the Sikhs, the Buddhists etc. The "partition" was probably one of the worst aspects of the U.K's hurried withdrawal from the Raj India.

They ruled India for more than a century....it wasn't there place to divide...but it just shows how sick they were. They were forced to leave (reasons can be more varied and controversial, but they were forced out of the country)....and they just couldn't accept the defeat of their pride...
It wasn't a good move.....it created havoc in India....and India is STILL paying the price of that partition....

the British government has always operated a divide and rule system - they did it in Ireland - they did it in Africa they did it in India and they did it in Palestine - divide it and keep them fighting among themselves meanwhile we supply them arms and cash in on the misery
maybe they think the average person is too stupid to understand

The UK messed up around the world and now they're seeing the repercussions of having had too much to control. They can barely run their tiny island, and they attempted to rule over India... silly!
