If you are young and healthy, a good dose to opt for is 200iu. You may want to increase this to 400iu if you are over 35+yrs.
But if you are on medication of any sort talk to a pharmacist first.

Vitamin E of the natural sort comes in the form of a capsule. Anything in tablet form is of the artifical type (acetate). I would avoid artifical Vitamin E. Your need for Vitamin E increases if you have a very oily diet or are on the contraceptive pill (BCP) or HRT. If you are on the BCP or HRT then I would opt for 400iu Vitamin E.

Hope this helps.
Best wishes.

There are actually eight naturally occurring molecules that make up vitamin E (alpha, beta, gamma, and delta tocopherol and alpha, beta, gamma and delta tocotrienol). You want a supplement that contains all eight. Sadly, most supplements contain only alpha-tocopherol.

Carlson labs makes an excellent product called "E-Gems Elite". It contains all eight forms of naturally occurring vitamin E.

Your local health food store should carry them. If not, you can order them directly from the manufacturer at 800-323-4141.

Best wishes and good luck.

The best one and only really useful one is d alpha tocopherol, ie natural Vitamin E.

The far more common one which is also cheaper is dl alpha tocopherol and this contains something like 90% of l alpha tocopherol and only 10% of d alpha tocopherol. The only really useful Vitamin E is natural Vitamin E, ie d alpha tocopherol. The dl alpha tocopherol is not worth getting and is only about 10% as good as the d alpha tocopherol.
