I personally think they could have a legitimate chance to go to the World Series, and we all know that whoever it is, an AL team will win it this year. That being said, I think the Sox are hurting right now and it doesn't help that the Yankees have been playing great baseball. Their $127,260,296.00 batting order (9 hitters only) is finally coming around and is scoring over 7 runs a game, on average, since the All-Star break. The Sox still have great pitcher (Beckett, Schilling, Wakefield, Matsuzaka, and Lester) in the starting rotation, and have most likely the deepest bullpen with Papelbon, Okijima, Delcarmen, and now Gagne (who has not been promising yet, but will hopefully come around soon). What we need is the bats to come alive, because even if we can keep the opponents under 4 runs a game (3.79 team ERA as of 14-Aug-2007) we need to score runs to win games.

If you are simply going to ask Red Sox fans, most will agree with you, but is that what you really want? Most Yankee fans will say no, because they think they will win, again, another pointless question.
How about you ask people from NL cities or the rest of the AL, you are more likely to get an honest response and judgement at how the Red Sox are doing without the hatred and without the blinders.
Personally, and I am from the Toronto area, Boston's team is superior in the AL east and I would think they should be able to win the East.
However, my vote for the Series is still the Cleveland Indians.

Well, if the Red Sox manage to keep the best record in baseball then they are definitely screwed, just based on history....the team with the best record very rarely makes it to the World Series let alone win. Plus, this years team seems to be choke artists at best right now. I hope they pull it together, but I really doubt theyre going to.

I live and breathe Red Sox but I have to say, if they don't get their act together they'll be lucky to win the Wild Card however I do think they will get their act together and eventually still lose to either the Tigers or Angels in the playoffs...

even if they get into the playoffs, the chances are slim of them winning it all. Though they do have excellent pitching, the way that the playoffs r set up is the teams that are playing good ball during the end of the season is set up to make a push in the playoffs....teams like boston, detriot, and even cleveland , which happens to be my favorite team, need to get things straightened around be4 the regular season ends....the yankees do scare me with that lineup, but in the end, it all comes down to pitching and i think boston or cleveland has the best

Boston will be lucky if they can regroup and still make the playoffs. They struggle with teams like Kansas City, Baltimore and Chicago. I think you need to realize they cannot compete with the Mariners or the Angels and they have to be scared out of their pants stepping into Yankee Stadium at the end of the month.

I'm totally a red sox fan, don't get me wrong. But everytime I check, the gap between them and second place is getting smaller and smaller. I'm a bit worried. Though I would LOVE to see them get it though!

I can't think of any national league team that is any good. Diamond backs were swept by us. We'll see what happens with the Yankees, if they can survive. Anyways I don't see why not

yah i believe the redsox have a great chance of getting the pennant but they are going to have to step it up a notch, those yankees have die-hard fans and lots of money, your lead is dwindling now....but ohh its gonna come so close....and still yankee's might get wild card....hey anyway, good luck im so sick and tired of yankees getting into playoff's every year.....time for a change
