Yankees and San Diego. Neither one is in first place right now, but I don't see either Boston or Arizona hanging on. And the Yanks have done well this year against The Los Angeles California Angels of Anaheim Orange County Golden West North America Western Hemisphere Planet Earth Sol System Alpha Quadrant Milky Way. As for the NL, the Padres just look like the team best equipped for the postseason.
That's thinking with my head. If I were going with my heart, it would be the Cubs beating the Yankees. As big a Yankee Fan as I am, they WANT another title, they don't NEED one, while the Cubs are in Year 100 without one. But with my head, Yanks over Padres in 6.
Somebody said the Expos? You do know the Expos are now the Washington Nationals, right? And not very good this year?

This may be a suprise to some, but I think the Angels have a great chance to make it. They have good starting pitching (Weaver, Lackey, Escobar) and of course, K-rod to close. I like Vlad. A healthy Boston team may trump my prediction.
The NL is tough. The Cards are looking good right now, gotta love Ankiel. But they need pitching bad. I think the Mets are best all-around and will end up making it. Pedro's return should help. the west teams don't hit well, the Brewers and Cubs have too many holes, the phillies and braves have bad bullpens and only two good starters at most.

Oh, you're thinking of the 2006 World Series.
It's generally very difficult for teams to make it to the Series after finishing in third place in baseball's weakest division.

I would love to see Yankees and Cardinals, the 2 most historic franchises in all of baseball. But I'm going with Yankees and D'backs rematch of 2001.

no, I don't think the cards will make it but I would say the Mets and the Angels. That would be a good match.
