There are a number of researches that suggest that babies can hear while in womb. My aunt used to sing a particular thing while she was pregnant, i remember her daughter picking up that single song very quickly compared to many others.
There's also a story in Indian Mythology, which says that Abhimanyu learnt a particular methodology of war while he was still in his mother's womb. But was eventually killed in the war, since he just heard the part where Krishna explained how to penetrate to enemy defenses and never learnt the part which explained how to come out successfully.

Well I know in a fact that the sound inside a mother's womb sounds just like a vaccum cleaner, so a baby can fall asleep with the vaccum on. Meaning...I guess they can hear?

While pregnant with my son, I loved crushed ice, so spent a lot of time at our refrigerator getting ice out of the ice maker, and if your fridge crushes your ice you know the awful noise it makes. My son would kick and jump like crazy, I guess it scared him. Well, for awhile, after being born, he would freak out every time someone got ice out of the fridge, no matter what room he was in. Now at 9 months, he's grown accustomed to the noise.

When I was pregnant with my son, I would often go to my husband's gigs (He does a Hendrix Tribute show.)
When the music started, I could always feel my son "dancing" to the music.
Now he is 14 and plays the electric guitar ... he loves rock.

There were times when my son would not move for a long period of time, and it was a cause of concern for us. So I would pick up a pair of headphones and place them over my wife’s belly and play some classical music. He would immediately react by moving around.
As proof of his “learning,” it was apparent after he was born that he recognized my wife’s voice and mine.

when my mom was pregnant with my little brother named Ethan my dad always put his head to my moms stomach and said his name and talked to him (a little weird) well when he was born he kinda got stuck on the way out and once he finally came out he was hardly breathing (and fo some reason the doctors didnt give him air)....yes for about 2-3 minutes after he was born he was hardly breathing. My mom said his name and I guess he instantly opened his eyes and his breathing rate increased.

When I was pregnant with my son I would sing a song called "You are my Love Bug" (It's actually You are my Sunshine, but I just added Love Bug instead of Sunshine LOL) Anyway, I continued to sing this song to him at nap time, bed time and when he was cranky. My son just recently told me one night when I was done singing it to him that when he misses me at school at nap time he sings the song to himself. I almost cried when he told me that, it was one of the cutest things in the world.
