We are taking our family to colonial williamsburg. If anyone has been, can you please tell me how this place works...do you pay to go into the area, or do you pay for the buildings you go into? And also, are all the buildings open? Is it fun, or boring? Help..............

I have been quite a few times. You enter in the area at a central point, where you purchase your tickets and get a park pass. You can also purchase different levels of passes at that point, including photo-id badges for season passes.

I am a bit of a history buff, and there is a LOT of history there, including William and Mary College. But there is a lot of shopping, as well - something for everyone. In easy striking distance is a huge water park, historic Jamestown, the Busch brewery, and the theme park Busch Gardens. There are a lot of things to do, and the best way to do it is to just get out there and start walking through the grounds.

I hope that you enjoy it. I have been a number of times, and it is just as fun each time.

It's something of an odd set-up. The exhibits are right in the midst of the town. Therefore, someone can easily stroll down the middle of the streets without charges. Admission passes are checked at the front doors of exhibits, so if you want to see the craftsmen at work of the insides of historic buildings, you need to pay.

Colonial Williamsburg is OK, but didn't strike me as overly fascinating. I would bet some kids would have trouble with it. I liked Jamestown much better, and Yorktown was interesting too. There is plenty to do in the area for the whole family.

You pay to get into the historic area. The things inside the historic area are included with the exception of food and shopping items.

I think it's interesting, but then I enjoy historical stuff.

Go in with an open mind, they are trying to show you how people lived and worked in the 1600 &1700s.
