impression that it's a code word of some sort. It seems to be used in a very subjective context (e.g., fair tax) and leaves me wondering just what they mean. Can anyone explain it?

It used to mean equality of opportunity, but the left today has twisted it to mean equality of results.

Thus, wealth and winning at dodge ball have become evil.

I'm not surprised at all that fairness is a completely foreign concept to some right-wingers who only care about getting rich by running sweatshops staffed by sub-minimum-wage laborers who are paid under the table (no taxes) or by going to war with a country that didn't attack us. Some conservatives have no concept at all of fairness or the good of the country because they're totally driven by amoral greed.

Ayn Rand used the word "fair" a lot in her books. I think I understand the term better after reading Atlas Shrugged.

The left uses fair to mean that no matter if one works hard to earn a living, or if one doesn't work, they deserve an equal status and standard of living.

Mostly what they mean is that those who break their butts and work hard to make a living should be responsible for giving up a huge portion of what they earn to those who sit around on their butts all day and read The World Weekly News.

Since you've taken the time post a 'fair and balanced' question, I'll take the time to chuckle at it's absurdity.

whenever a leftist uses the word fair, it simply means the other party is better at something than they are...so therefore its not fair...
