Taking a quarterback that early is a bad, bad, bad idea. All the experts in all the magazines and websites will tell you to take a running back in the first round, if not in the first TWO rounds. The reason is that the drop off between Manning and Palmer and a Philip Rivers that you could get in the 8th round is miniscule compared to the MASSIVE dropoff in points between the top running backs and the second tier ones. If you have the sixth pick, then try to get Willie Parker, Addai, or Rudi Johnson. One of those guys is usually available at that point. You really should try to get another one in round 2. Let someone else get Manning and end up fighting for running back points with Marion Barber and Tatum Bell. Sucks to be them!

You should definetely be looking towards a running back. Palmer and Manning will still be there, but there is no need to take them. It's all about value, and the dropoff of points from a first-tier to a second-tier running back is a lots, where as the dropoff from a first-tier to a second-tier quarterback is a lot.
With the sixth pick, I'm sure Tomlinson, Jackson, and Johnson will all be chosen, and more than likely Alexander. I would say you have a choice between Willie Parker, Frank Gore, Joseph Addai, and Rudi Johnson, and Brian Westbrook. I would probably go for Addai or Gore.

Gore, Alexander or Addai...whichever one is left.
Gore ave. 5.4 yards per carry and had 1695 yards rushing. The o-line looks good and an improved passing game and defense should only open up more oppurtunities to score.
Alexander should not be overlooked because of his injury. At the end of last season, he rushed for 5 TDs and had 4 90+ yard games in his last 6 games. Six month later, I think he's ready to score 18+ TD group again, but beware of the lost of Hutchinson.
Addai is the ultimate guess. He could finish better than E. James '05 stats (1,506 yards and 14 TDs) or he could do what E. James did in '02 (989 yards with 3 TDs). He should at least do what he did last year (1081 rushing yards and 8 TDs) and Rhodes only had 5 TDs last year so 13 TDs may be all you get. High powered offense though should be better than overrated W. Parker, Rudi Johnson and R. Brown (Westbrook and Maroney are my 7 and 8).

Get a running back, definitely. If you take a QB, you will have to spend the next 2 or 3 picks chasing RB's, and while you're at it, other teams will be eating up the top recievers.
You may have to accept the fact that you can't have Peyton, but you can pick up Brady, Brees, Palmer, Bulger in the 3rd round or maybe even later.
The difference between the top stud running backs and the rest is far bigger than the difference between Peyton and Eli, fantasy-wise.

Yes, they both would be available, but do you want to pick a QB at that spot? I would go with the best available RB on the board when you pick.

You have to go RB in a standard scoring league. Westbrook will probably be your best bet. Addai should be off the board by then.
