I have just arrived home after a 6 hour flight and my ankles are massive, what do i do!

Your first action should be to cut down on your salt intake and drink a MINIMUM of 60-70 ounces of water EVERY day. Your body retains water because it's not getting enough to flush out toxins (so the fluids pool in your extremities). Counter-productive I know, but the human body was NOT the best design by nature.

If after making some lifestyle changes you're still experiencing this problem, you might need to go to the doctor and have some blood work done. Edema is sometimes an indicator of other undiagnosed health problems (diabetes, for example).

Drink water. If you're taking enough in, your body won't be likely to retain it.

Keep your feet elevated. Salty foods are a no-no.
