Betta's are community fish, you're absolutely right about that

your tank was not really overstocked in my opinion

As for the bettas, if you want to get females you need to leave out the male, but you need to get at least 3 FEMALES that they are able to choose the so called pecking order, if you only get 2 one will dominate the other one

Balloon mollies
any kind of platy
a school of zebra danios of at least 6
a school of neon tetras also of at least 6
cory cats (they are bottom feeder)

Hope that helps
Good luck

You have too many fish in the tank and bettas are not community fish (hahah) sorry all kidding aside the only thing you got right in any of your statements is that is is possible to keep bettas with some other fish. But honestly your tank really is over stocked. Any more fish and you wont have room for water. Fish do need water to live right or does you family use something else? i mean you dont want to hear the truth and are very stubborn to take any advice. If it is a disease that attach to the fish than it sounds like some parasite but the problem is there is no parasite or disease known as khelping. If it is a parasite there are ways to treat it. You say you know what your talking about and you say you dont want to hear that you are doing anything wrong than why are you asking for advice? So no matter what people tell you that may help you seem like you will just neglect the infoprmation provided to you. Your family has been keeping and breeding fish for years so ask them. Let me tell you that somethings that were believed to be true not so many years back have been falsified by advancements in science and through extensive research. So what your family may believe to still be true from the past may have been proven otherwise. I am gonna tell you your tank is over crowded and keep stocking fish the way you are now and they will continue to die. Thats why the diosease wont leave. Its your methods of keeping fish. Try keeping less fish in a tank and i bet youll have better luck. otherwise dont waste our time if you dont want a real answer and just want to justify to yourself that you know what you are doing. I guess for you ignorance is bliss but to bad your poor fish have to die due to your ignorance. And for my own personal knowledge id love for you to show me any documentation of this mystery disease you call khelping!

Just because the fish die and you take out the bodys does not solve your problem. You need to cure the disease or use bleach at about 20% strength and clean the tank and everything that goes in it including any nets you use. Make sure NO bleach remains on anything or this will be sure death to any fish.Otherwise the disease is probably still in the tank and will reoccur when you add new fish. From your spelling I do not recognize the disease you are discribing Go to a good aquarium store that is not a chain store and ask them to help you select compatable fish. Otherwise there are lots of fish sites on the web that will answer questions by knowlegalbe aquarists See what fish you like then ask if they are compatable. You probably don"t want to buy fish simply because they get along together. If they are going to keep your interest you have to like them. Good luck

"Don't tell me this" "Don't tell me that" Do you want people to answer you?! It doesn't just matter if the fish are happy or not, it's not healthy for that many fish to be in the same tank. The water gets too polluted (could be a good reason why you have a disease huh? or helped it out a whole lot) and the fish need air.

Quite bluntly if you want answers just shut up and listen to the advice you asked for.

If you so supposedly know what you are doing, why do you need to ask all us fools on here what to do, but furthermore, how is it that your fish have a disease that doesn't exist? What is khelping? There isn't even a disease that remotely sounds like this word. And, one, virtually all diseases are treatable, or at least you should be doing everything in your power to try to treat it and not just letting your poor fish die a slow, horrible death. And, alternatively, if there really is no hope for them, why are you not humanely euthanizing them with clove oil? You had too many fish in your tank for one thing and in addition to not even knowing what your fish are dying of or not being willing to do anything about it, I cannot, in good conscience, give you advice on what fish will next be on your hit list. Sorry if I don't give you a good answer and make you angry and you give me a negative point, but I just have to say this.

I agree with the idea of flushing your fish, It will stop the disease form spreading thicker. I would suggest completely replacing the water in your tank and clean of all your plants, rocks, filters and boil your sand in a pot before considering new fish. I would suggest getting some Angelfish and a Pleco maybe a some Silver tip tetras there generally not aggressive to each other.

Hope i helped!

well i didnt read the entire thing but instead of waiting till they all die why dont you flush them.... that way it might die faster so it doesnt have to suffer. and so you can continue with your hobbie quicker.
