"At a typical classroom temperature (21 C), Drosophila melanogaster will produce new adults in two weeks; eight days in the egg and larval stages, and six days in the pupal stage. The life span of a fruit fly may be several weeks. "

Fruit fly adults are only 1/8 inch long with tan bodies and bright red eyes. They lay their eggs on the surface of fermenting fruit or organic matter. Within two days the eggs hatch and by the end of eight days new adults can be found. If eaten, fruit fly larvae (immature forms) may cause stomach distress or illness, especially if the breeding site is contaminated. Sometimes breeding sites may be difficult to detect, such as with damp mops fermenting due to the presence of food particles or with unrinsed drink cans waiting for recycling.

YES - life should be judged on the quality and value! A life of more than 100 years does not mean it was any more enjoyable and pleasurable than a life that only lasted 50 years! I think one gains value and quality as they spend time finding the person they are, in which to share with those that they love. When someone possesses this quality, they have an inner beauty that shines so bright and seen by so many others. Unfortunately, we do not know that "length" of time for our lives. So we much get busy now doing the things we love, and spending time with people who have meaning in our life. Thanks for reading!

They live about long enough to procreate and die off, just to leave behind more of the annoying things to buzz around.
