I've only been renting there for a little over a month, but during that time I've had the distinct feeling of being watched. I may be imagining it, but I'd like to be sure. Plus, something about the property manager makes me wonder if that could be something he would do.

The cheapest way to find any listening or video device is to take a simple AM/FM radio. Turn it on to the AM frequency, turn the dial all the way to the lowest number (88.1) then run the radio over the area you think is bugged. If you hear a pitch in frequency or a rapid tapping noise you have found your bug.

Try using a metal detector at unlikely places like furniture and walls. Switch off all the electrical appliances in your house and observe your electricity meter. If it still runs, then something else (a bug or camera) may be running and consuming power. But since these devices use so little power, it's unlikely you will detect anything this way. Check your phone mouthpiece. Check every little space in your house. Check innocent looking ornaments that were there from before. Check your bathroom mirrors to see if they are two way mirrors. That's a classic place to hide a camera. Have the phone company check your phone line for wire-tapping. That's about all you can do as an amateur. A private detective agency might have the equipment to scan for bugs and stuff.

This "feeling of being watched" is just that, a feeling. Researchers have studied it, including watching people without their knowledge, and nobody can actually tell when they're being watched. So yes, you're just imagining it.

It's common to get feelings like that when you move to a new place and everything feels unfamiliar and new. When you have those thoughts, just put them out of your mind and think of something else instead. As you get settled and comfortable in your new apartment, the feeling will naturally fade.

Wow, if he gives you the creeps... move. What you need is something that can pick up radio transmissions. Just scope out in the areas that you may think they might be at. But really, what would his motivation be..if he is a fruitcake, get the heck out.

Why don't you call the management company to see if there have been any complaints or place a complaint?

The only other alternative I know is seeing a psychiatrist.

Good luck!!
