According to hearing experts, the human ear has the capacity to hear from 20Hz (lowest frequency) to 20kHz (highest frequency). So, in order to reproduce sound that appears natural to our ears, speakers must come as close as possible to reproducing sound from 20Hz to 20kHz. Also, the speakers have to reproduce this wide range of frequencies without too much emphasis or deemphasis on any one frequency band. This takes careful engineering by the speaker manufacturers. That is why better speakers list their frequency response and also the "flatness" of the frequency response.

This refers to the frequancy range of particular speaker in question and the performance has to do with which type of speaker this is stamped. The woofer should have the lowest range, the mid range shoudl have the largest range from low to highest and the tweeters should have the absolutely highest range possible. What this does is put most fo the work on the mid-range and the woofer and tweeter fill in the frequancy range that the mid-range can't voice.
