I don't recall human rights or democracy in Iraq before the US entered the country, so there's no way it can be accused of destroying it. Democracy cannot be established there while certain Iraqis are set against it at all costs.

First, I want to apologize for the native English speakers who are so unforgiving about spelling errors by people who obviously have gone out of their way to learn OUR language!

Actually, at this point, MOST Americans are in disagreement with American occupation of Iraq.

Unfortunately, Americans, like people from other nations, are too quick to believe propaganda. We were told that Hussein was helping bin Laden, and bin Laden was behind the attacks on the World Trade Center. So Americans supported the Iraqi invasion.

Obviously, we are responsible for the deaths of far more Iraqi civilians than Hussein ever was - and for that, I am deeply sorry. Most Americans at this point are also feeling regret over this.

There will be some, however, who cannot view the situation logically. Killing a dictator who killed a few thousand people - and causing the deaths of over 60,000 innocent civilians during this process seems illogical to me. But some people cannot seem to grasp that.

It's not just Americans, though. It's a human condition. In Iraq there are terrible human rights abuses committed by Iraqis on other Iraqis (like the atrocities committed against women).

It's time to create a better world, don't you think?

Iraq had neither a democracy or human rights when we invaded. The mass graves of people who the dictator Saddam killed because they didnt agree with him attest to that. The US government attempted to plant the seeds of democracy in Iraq, but by incorporating sharia law as the basis of their legal system they have effectively eliminated any possibility of a true democracy or human rights. It will probably end up functioning more like a puppet democracy controlled by an informal theocracy. The hope was that by allowing the people the right of self determination, that Iraq would be able to grow into a more open society that is capable of providing jobs and growth for its economy that will allow it to compete in the world economy.

I am lost here. What did the American people destroy in Iraq. Their was no democracy in Iraq there was a dictator named Saddam though. These human rights your talking about - were those the ones that were only reserved for friends and family of Saddam or where those the ones where innocent people were being tortured and killed?

Saddam refused to comply with sixteen United Nations Resolutions that he signed and agreed to abide by. After twelve years of talking people got sick of his attitude and decided to force him to comply. A consequence he was very aware of. Iraq is in the mess it is largely due to Iraqis. They are incapable of living alongside each other in harmony. They looted and trashed their own country and then blamed America or Britain or anyone else. Until Iraqis take responsibility for their own actions and own part in all this there will be no peace in Iraq and certainly no democracy. Not Americas, Britains or anyone elses fault. The problem is the Iraqi attitude. Quit fighting each other and things miraculously will change....it is not rocket science my friend.

I'm going to answer based on what I think you said. We need Iraq to be a stable Democracy to help us stabilize the region that includes rogue nations such as Iran and Syria. The nation of Iraq can also be a source of economic gain for us by pawning of some of our consumer goods on them.

I have no idea what you just asked but I don't think I agree with it. Iraq was not a democracy before, it was a dictatorship and a totalitarian regime, the people got mad and some of them wanted to revolt against Saddam and his evil regime.
