I live in northern California and see honeybees all the time. Are they wild? And if so, is there a way to find their bee tree so I can experience wild honey? If I find one, is there a safe way to extract the honey?

The safest way to extract honey is to LET A PROFESSIONAL DO IT. Don't go looking for trouble.

To find their hive, go to the flowers they are feeding on and follow them after they feed. They will go straight to the hive, so if you loose them along the way just keep walking slowly and watch for more bees.

Once you find it, getting the honey is a COMPLETELY different issue. You should have a full body protection suit, a bee bonnet, a smoker, and at least a few years of experience. Otherwise, leave it to the experts.

There really isn't a difference between wild and domestic honey. They really are the same bees. The only difference is the flavor from the different flowers. There should be some apiaries (bee keepers) around who just do it for fun and let their bees eat from wildflowers.

Thats kinda complicated. You'd have to have some skill in bee tracking to find the nest. Then the proper beekeeper gear in order to approach it safely. I'd suggest you do a lot more research then just looking on here especially since in some areas honey bees have interbread with killer bees with disasterous results. I'd hate to see your inexperience get you killed.

Simple. Follow the bees in the early evening. I've found that most creatures of the "day" head to their homes at sundown, or TRY to. As to your query about a "safe way": Hardly anything in this life is ever TRULY "safe".
