how to find out whether i have a static I P address or dynamic address ?

Check the properties for tcp/ip in the list of network components listed under network properties. Right click on the my network places icon.

Try this, if ur using a modem attached to your computer.. go to www.whatismyip.com..write down the numbers that apeared on it..now turn of your computer and the modem...wait about 10 minutes..then turn on you modem..and after that your computer..then go to that site again..if the numbers change then you have a dynamic IP address..if not you got a static IP address..another way is trying to call you Internet service provider and go to the techenical suport team,and ask them what you got

I assume you are talking about a public IP address (IE the one you use on the net) as opposed to one that you use on you local area network (AKA your private IP address).

If you are not paying your ISP for a static IP address, then you are 99% likely to have a dynamic address as ISP's charge for the privilege of having a static IP.
