What kind of clothing can I (a 15 year old girl) wear that will not make me feel like such a tourist? Because I'm sure fashion in america must be very different than over there...
My dad went a few years ago, and brought me back a tshirt that literall said "american-style tshirt" inside.
So what exactly mighnt a "greek-style" tshirt be???
I hate that feeling when your'e walking around, and it's completely dead obvious that you aren't from that area... and people mumble under their breaths "Stupid tourists" while they shove by you. I want to really experience the culture (modern... yes... i'm not going there for the ancient stuff, though i will see it i'm sure) while i'm there, so throw at me what you got!

First piece of advice Greek girls of 15 usually don't wear shorts in the city. They might wear them if they go to the beach or to the pool or in the house, but when they walk down the streets they usually wear jeans or a skirt or something like that.
Native Greeks usually don't wear hats, even though in the last few years hats have been in,but still,I don't see a lot of Greek girls wearing them.
It's warm here,so you should try and dress as light and as basic as possible.Jeans,a plain shirt and some sandals are great for shopping.Jeans,a somewhat better shirt-top and high heel shoes if you go out(avoid boots or pumps, wear something open so your feet can "breathe").Keep your make up basic, even at night.
What I would suggest you to do is wear things you are comfortable in.If jeans are too hot for you to wear in the summer, don't wear them.If you can't walk on high heels very well, avoid them, especially if you are going to an island with not so good streets.Your holidays are supposed to be the time where you relax and have a great time, not one when you stress out about how you look or what other people think of you.And usually when you feel good in what you wear, you look at your best.So go with your instinct,I'm sure fashion isn't that different between here and the US(we watch american series and movies, and read about american stars in our magazines, the fashion magazines follow the international runways,so I'm pretty sure our idea about fashion is close enough to yours.)
And sorry to be the one breaking these news to you,but since you don't know the greek ways and language you will most definately come across people who will think of you as a "stupid tourist"...but why care, those people just don't know better.I rather have a great time, get goo-goo eyes when I see something I never saw before while I'm on holidays and get marked as a "stupid tourist" than pretend all the time and not fully enjoy my holidays. As a matter of fact I went on holidays to Santorini this year, and went crazy over a "stupid tourist souvenir",bought it,and haven't regreted it yet(even though I'm sure the guy I bought it from thought:"stupid person not from Santorini").:D:D:D:D
Have a great time on your holidays!!!

You will wera jeans(even if it is hot, i would advise you something lighter as trousers of light tissue, skirts, dresses,we dont wear shorts to go to the city jkust to the beach...
Then for the evening, the greeks, you have to know, are between the most well dresses europeans, so bring something a little bit more formal, not a long dress, but a skirt with a nice shirt, something like that in order to feel comfortable in a place where the others will be better dressed

I'm going to greece soon too - Rhode Islands - and I just choose clothes that I will be comfortable in.
No one will judge you for the clothes you wear - trust me, no one will be looking at you and thinking 'stupid tourists'. And anyway, even if they do, who cares? You dont know these people - you are most likely never going to meet them again, so whats the worry if they think youre a 'stupid tourist'?
But if you still aren't convinced, wearing white shirts is very greek, I'm told. But seriously, in a hot country like that, its better to wear loose fitting clothes that are light and comfortable. And a few dresses for evenings out! ^_^
Hope this helps - I'm 15 too, but I'm english. ^-^

I was in Spain when I was 18. (Long ago). The style back then was halter tops and very low cut jeans.Fashion repeats it seems. My sister and I really did stand out back then. Europe was alittle more conservative. Just try to be yourself and have a good time. Rude people are every where. I wouldn't suggest walking around half naked. I myself don't like seeing a young woman dressed that way here. You'll figure out how people are dressing when you get there. Have fun!

We dress exactly like you'd dress at home. What makes tourists look different, is that they are not dressed like they would be dressed at their country, on a typical day to work. They wear shorts, hinking sandals and strange hats. Nothing wrong with that though, because you need the hat for the sun and all and the shoes to walk around. So if you want to look normal, just wear your every day casual clothes.

you don't have to wear something special....wear clothes that make you feel comfortable.you must have a hat for the sun and don't wear too warm clothes.you can wear whatever you like but not too glamorous 'cause you're on holiday.that's for the day.the night if you decide to go to a beach bar, wear something nice but not with "precious" rocks or something else that will make you look like an alien...you can wear something simple and when you come here see what the others are wearing and do the same.
but i am sure that there's not great difference.just remember that here it's too hot and sunny!!!
happy holiday!!!!

Well, I've been station in Athens, Greece back in the mid 70's. The thing that I remember is they dressed basically like you and I do. The best advise that I could give you is to dress the way you normally do and be yourself, and also be prepared for a cultural shock. How ever do notice and respect their traditions and way of doing things. Greeks like Americans are just ordinary people. They want things just as much as you or I.

Why don't you just go shopping get to Greece? Wear something very basic for the trip, and then go on a spending spree. Look aroun, and buy clothes that are similar to what the girls your age around you are wearing.

I am from Greece, and I see all the time tourists nowadays. I see them, and I say that they are very lucky because they come to Greece for summer holidays. I never thought what clothes they wear. You can buy clothes from here in Greece. You are welcome!!!

I think it would be best if you study greece on the computer, look at some picture of people from Greece, look at what they are wearing. If you have anything that is simulaire to what they are wearing then wear that. Its nnot that hard.
